“Hope to maintain this rhythm and win gold for India”: Sakshi Chaudhary eyes CWG glory after SF win

by Osvaldo Mancini

Glasgow [Scotland], August 1 (ANI): Indian boxer Sakshi Chaudhary described her journey so far as excellent after securing a unanimous victory in the semi-final of the women’s 51kg category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
She expressed confidence in maintaining her momentum in the final and said she would work with her coaches to prepare a strategy aimed at winning the gold medal for India.
Achieving a dominant 5-0 victory over Canada’s Amber-Jane Wall, she will fight for gold medal next.
“My journey has been excellent so far. This was my semi-final bout, and having won it unanimously. I feel really good. I hope to maintain this rhythm in the final as well and win a gold medal for my country… We will sit down with the
coaches to devise a strategy for the final,” Chaudhary told ANI.
The Indian boxer dominated from the outset, sweeping both the opening and second rounds 5-0 before sealing victory with another flawless round. Controlling the bout from start to finish, Sakshi secured a place in the final and moved one step closer to Commonwealth Games gold.
Indian boxer Priya Ghanghas also expressed pride after securing a silver medal for India and said she is determined to give her best in the final. She stressed that she and her team will analyse her opponent’s videos, plan their strategy, and aim to return home with a gold medal.
Ghanghas edged past England’s Lucy Kings-Wheatley in a closely contested opening round of the women’s 60kg semifinal, securing a 4-1 victory. In a tightly fought start, the Indian boxer held her composure and landed the first blow, gaining an early advantage in the bout.
Ghanghas faced a tough challenge in the second round of the women’s 60kg semifinal, as England’s Lucy Kings-Wheatley fought back to take the round 4-1.
Despite a closely contested bout where both boxers battled fatigue and exchanged strong punches, Priya held her nerve to earn a unanimous decision victory 5-0.
“I am feeling extremely proud to have already secured a silver medal for my country. Before the final, we will analyse my opponent’s videos, prepare our strategy, and give our 100 per cent on the mat. I will put in my best effort to ensure we return home with a gold medal,” Ghanghas told ANI. (ANI)
