How Nedda Ledgerwood Makes Divorce Less Traumatic for Children and Parents

by Binarynewsnetwork
  • Nedda Ledgerwood, a family law attorney in Campbell, California, shares her approach to representing clients and children through divorce while bringing calm to a chaotic process.

Why did you start your own practice?

California, USA, Aug 10, 2026, ZEX PR WIRE — “I wanted to work for myself to allow for flexibility as my husband and I started our family,” Ledgerwood explains. She founded Ledgerwood Law in 2005, beginning with shared office space in Sunnyvale before establishing her practice in San Jose. Starting her own firm gave her the independence to balance purpose and family while building a legal practice on her terms.

What is your approach to divorce representation?

“I do what I can to make the divorce less traumatic while still advocating for my clients,” she says. Ledgerwood focuses on being direct and organized with clients while offering support through one of the most difficult experiences in their lives. Her goal is to provide clarity and follow through on commitments while doing what is fair and right.

She works on three main areas: representing clients through divorce, facilitating mediation between parties, and representing children in family law cases.

How do you help children during divorce?

“I want the kids I represent to know that they are loved and wanted, even though their parents are at an impasse. To be wanted is valuable and they can cherish that,” Ledgerwood says. When she represents children in family law cases, her focus is on helping them feel secure and valued during a time when their family structure is changing.

She advocates for children while keeping their emotional wellbeing at the center of the legal process.

What does mediation bring to the divorce process?

“I provide a breath of fresh air in the divorce arena,” she notes. Mediation offers couples a way to resolve disputes without going to court. It can reduce conflict, save time, and give both parties more control over the outcome.

Ledgerwood facilitates conversations between spouses to reach agreements on custody, property, and support issues. The process is usually less expensive and less adversarial than litigation.

What keeps you grounded in this work?

Ledgerwood maintains her focus through a combination of professional and personal habits. She reads case files and notes carefully, talks to colleagues for perspective, and exercises regularly. Self-reflection helps her stay centered, and spending time with family and giving back to her community keeps her connected to what matters most.

These routines help her bring calm and clarity to clients who are going through chaos.

If you do nothing else

  1. Talk to a family law attorney before making decisions about separation or divorce.

  2. Focus on what is fair and right rather than what will hurt your spouse.

  3. Remember that your children need to feel loved and wanted throughout the process.

  4. Consider mediation as an alternative to litigation if both parties are willing.

  5. Be direct with your attorney about your needs and concerns.

  6. Take care of your own wellbeing through exercise, reflection, and time with supportive people.

  7. Ask your attorney to follow through on commitments and hold them accountable.

If you know someone going through a divorce or considering separation, share this Q&A with them. The right approach can make a difficult process less traumatic.
